About BRICS 1OCSMD

BRICS 1OCSMD will be organized for the first time in May 2024 and hosted by Laboratory of 2D Optoelectronics and Nanoelectronics (L2DON) leaded by Prof. Yury Illarionov (official Russian delegate of 5th BRICS Young Scientist Forum 2020 and past participant of BRICS STI Framework project) in Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech), Shenzhen, China. The conference will feature various areas related to smart materials and devices:

Electrical, optical and mechanical properties 2D materials (graphene, TMDs, black phosphorus, etc)
Emerging devices based on 2D materials, thin film semiconductors, etc
Advanced modeling of material properties, including prediction of new materials
Advanced TCAD modeling of semiconductor devices
Smart materials for health care and environmental applications
Materials and devices for quantum technologies, quantum algorithms and computing

We have finally confirmed speakers from 8 BRICS members: Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, Saudi Arabia, UAE and Iran, as well as several participants from Singapore, Austria and Germany.

Organizers

Laboratory of 2D Optoelectronics and Nanoelectronics (L2DON) is led by Associate Professor Yury Illarionov and belongs to the Department of Materials Science and Engineering of the Southern University of Science and Technology, Shenzhen, China. Our research is centered around devices based on 2D materials, mainly field-effect transistors and photodetectors. While our laboratory is new, by Fall 2024 we are expected to have facilities for device nanofabrication and electrical characterization. At the moment we are mostly focused on modeling of the reliability of field-effect transistors with 2D channels using advanced TCAD tools and compact models.

The Department of Theoretical Physics named after E. V. Shpol'sky of the Moscow Pedagogical State University (MPGU, Moscow, Russia) was founded in 1939. The main direction of the department's educational activities is the training of scientific and pedagogical personnel in all main areas of life sciences based on physics. The department gained international fame in connection with the discovery in its laboratory of the Shpol'sky effect - the effect of the appearance of fine-structured quasi-line spectra in frozen solutions of complex organic compounds. This effect is at the foundation of the Nobel prize in chemistry 2014 for the development of super-resolution fluorescence microscopy.

Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) is an innovation-oriented public university founded by Shenzhen government in the background of China's higher education reform. It aspires to be a model and pioneer for promoting higher education reform. It is committed to serving the mission of promoting Shenzhen as a modern, international, and innovative city and China as a creative country.

SUSTech is widely regarded as a trailblazer and innovator in advancing China's higher education. It was officially approved by the Ministry of Education in April 2012. SUSTech bears the responsibility for exploring and developing a modern university system with Chinese characteristics to serve as a model for cultivating innovative talents. SUSTech aims at a globally renowned university that contributes to the advancement of science and technology. It nurtures promising and creative leaders who excel in interdisciplinary research and creating knowledge for the world.

SUSTech draws on the experience of world-class science and engineering universities for its disciplinary establishment and governance. It focuses on science, engineering, and medicine in conjunction with distinctive disciplines, including business, humanities, and social sciences. SUSTech offers undergraduate and postgraduate education while conducting research in a series of innovative disciplines. All of those practices shape SUSTech into a think tank for social progress and a generator of new knowledge and new technology.
